전주의 한지 장인이 뜬 수제 한지, 직접 대나무를 키우고 다듬는 부채 장인이 만든 부채살과 선면, 김현주 작가가 염색한 한지와 직접 다듬은 손잡이가 더해져 완성된 수공예 한지 부채입니다.
This is a handmade hanji fan made with hanji by a hanji artisan from Jeonju, the ribs and surface of the fan made by a fan artisan who grows and trims bamboo himself, and the hanji dyed and personally trimmed by artist Kim Hyun-joo.

- 한국 전통 종이, 한지는 닥나무 섬유로 만듭니다. "한지는 천 년, 비단은 오백 년 간다." 는 옛말이 있을 정도로 습기, 벌레, 외부 충격에 강한 고품질 소재로서 오랜 세월 동안 다양하게 사용되어 왔습니다. 조선시대에는 한지를 여러겹 붙여 갑옷을 만들어 입었는데 화살도 이 갑옷을 뚫지 못할 정도로 단단했다고 합니다.
- 한국에서는 단오(5월 경) 때 더위를 쫓고 건강을 기원하는 의미로 부채를 주고받는 풍습이 있었습니다. 임금이 신하에게 부채를 하사하고, 신하들은 이를 친척, 지인들에게 선물했습니다.
- 부채는 바람을 일으키는 기능뿐 아니라, 나쁜 기운을 쫓아 주변 환경을 맑게하고, 좋은 기운을 불러들인다는 상징적인 의미도 가지고 있었습니다.
